I produce handmade high-fired porcelain pottery for the kitchen and the table, using a kick wheel and other antique techniques.

Occasionally I use a fine pale stoneware, but I like porcelain for its whiteness, which allows for pure, saturated glaze colors, and for its smooth polished surface, which suits my pottery forms.

Hunting in the Orchard

I layer the porcelain with colored slips and transparent glazes, aiming for a visually rich surface, but one which remains subtle enough not to distract from the liveliness of the form. I like to work with figurative motifs, such as cats and mythic creatures, using paper resists to reserve silhouettes in the layers of slip and glaze, and then altering these images with carved lines.

My pottery is oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe, and my glazes are durable and resistant to abrasion. None of my glazes contain any lead, cadmium, or barium, and are safe for serving food. Standard precautions should be used in handling these pots-- do not use on stovetop burners, and casseroles should not go directly from refrigerator to hot oven.

For much more on the technical aspects of these pots, see the About the pots page.
